BIO: James Edward Hegan was born in 1920 in Lynn, MA and died in 1984 in Lynn, MA. He played major league baseball from 1941 to 1960 as catcher for the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Philidelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs, appeared in the 1948 and 1954 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. After his playing career ended, he was a New York Yankees coach from 1960 to 1973. He spent 1974 to 1978 on the Detroit Tigers coaching staff before rejoining the Yankees as a coach for two more seasons. He later spent time as a scout. He was the father of Mike Hegan.
