CHANCE NAMED CY YOUNG WINNERLos Angeles Angels pitcher Dean Chance, whose earned run average was the lowest this season among starters in either league, was named Cy Young Award winner Monday as the best pitcher of 1964. The award to the 23-year-old righthander was announced in Boston tonight by baseball commissioner Ford Frick.

BIO: Wilmer Dean Chance was born in 1941 in Plain Twsp., OH and died in 2015 in Wooster, OH. He played major league baseball from 1961 to 1971 as pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, California Angels, Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets and the Detroit Tigers, and was selected in 1964 and 1967 as an All-Star. In 1969 he became a boxing manager and promoter, and as of 2006 he was president of the International Boxing Association.
