He played major league baseball from 1975 to 1990 as outfielder and 1st baseman for the California Angels, Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. Since retiring as a player, he has been first base coach with the St. Louis Cardinals (1991-1992), Cincinnati Reds (1999-2000), Milwaukee Brewers (2002), and Colorado Rockies (2003-2006).
