George Howard Brett (Mullet) was born in 1953 in Glen Dale, WV. He played major league baseball from 1973 to 1993 as 1st and 3rd baseman for the Kansas City Royals, appeared in the 1980 and 1985 World Series, was selected 13 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Brett was the 1980 American League MVP and also 1980 Major League Player of the Year. He is famous as the victim of the "pine tar" incident in 1983, where New York Yankees manager Billy Martin convinced the umpire to disallow a home run by Brett on the grounds that Brett had rubbed pine tar on the bat beyond the allowed height. The decision was later reversed by the American League President, forcing the two teams to replay the game's last few outs. Brett is the only player ever to hit three home runs against the same pitcher in one postseason game. On October 6, 1978, in the ALCS, he hit three against Catfish Hunter. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on January 5, 1999 by the Baseball Writers Association of America, he was close to a unanimous pick, getting around 98% of the vote. He is the brother of Ken Brett, a pitcher who played 14 years in the major leagues and appeared in the 1967 World Series at the age of 18. He faced his brother 20 times in his career, getting 6 hits, 2 doubles and 1 RBI. His other brothers Bobby Brett and J.B. Brett bought the Spokane Indians along with Ken and George. They have also purchased the Spokane Chiefs minor league hockey team, the Tri-City Dust Devils, and the High Desert Mavericks. His nephew, Beau Brett, was drafted in the 2008 amateur draft.

Explanation of Type Classifications:

Type 1 = A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (within two years of when the shot was taken).

Type 2 = A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during a later period (more than two years after the shot was taken).

Type 3 = A 2nd generation photograph, developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during the period.

Type 4 = A 2nd generation photograph (or 3rd or later generation), developed from a duplicate negative or wire transmission, during a later period.

Original = A 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, which appears to be of the period but for which a print date cannot be determined for definitive Type classification. Essentially, a photo we feel is a Type 1, but which lacks certain elements necessary for definitive dating of the print.
