Raul Ramon (Avelino) Mondesi was born in 1971 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He played major league baseball from 1993 to 2005 as outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels and the Atlanta Braves, and was selected in 1995 as an All-Star. He was the 1994 National League Rookie of the Year and won Gold Gloves in 1995 and 1997. LF01
