COMMENTS / CONDITION: A HAPPY MAN---SYRACUSE: Bill McKechnie, right, unanimously elected to baseball's Hall of Fame today, looks over one of his 1st professional contracts as his son Jim, daughter-in-law Virginia and grandson Jim Jr. look on. The Elder McKechnie, known in baseball circles as "Deacon Bill," was visiting Syracuse today when he received word of his election.

BIO: William Boyd McKechnie (Deacon) was born in Wilkinsburg, PA and died in 1965 in Bradenton, FL. He played major league baseball from 1907 to 1920 as infielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, New York Yankees, Indianapolis Hoosiers, Newark Pepper, New York Giants, and the Cincinnati Reds, appeared in the 1924, 1933 and 1936 World Series, was selected 3 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. McKechnie also managed the 1915 Newark Pepper, the 1922-26 Pittsburgh Pirates, 1928-29 St. Louis Cardinals, 1930-37 Boston Braves, and the 1938-46 Cincinnati Reds.
