NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Bill Nicholson, pictured in his Chicago Cubs uniform circa 1946-47. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1946-47, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: William Beck Nicholson (Swish) was born in Chestertown, MD and died in 996 in Chestertown, MD. He went to college at Washington College. He played major league baseball from 936 to 953 as outfielder for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies, appeared in the 945 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. In 944, Nicholson received an intentional walk with the bases loaded. He is listed as one of only six players in major league history to do it. Nicknamed "Swish" because of his mighty swing, which often missed the ball, Nicholson twice led the National League in home runs and RBI. SKU: GB11292
