BIO: Carl Daniel Erskine (Oisk) was born in 1926 in Anderson, IN. He played major league baseball from 1948 to 1959 as pitcher for the Brooklyn / Los Angeles Dodgers, appeared in the 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956 World Series, and was selected in 1954 as an All-Star. Erskine's son, Gary, was drafted by the Dodgers in 1969 but never signed with the club. His youngest son, Jimmy, was born with Down syndrome, and Erskine spent much of his retirement years caring for him and working on behalf of other similarly-affected children.
