He played major league baseball from 1943 to 1946 as infielder for the Philadelphia Athletics. After two and a half seasons as a regular with the Athletics, he was ordered to report for induction to the Army on July 21, 1945. The evening before, he stayed up all night with teammates celebrating his last night as a civilian. However, the draft board classified him medically unfit for service, and he returned to the club in time for that day's game despite having no sleep the night before. Ironically, the contest that day against the Detroit Tigers went 24 innings. After his baseball career, Hall was an engineer. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1974, nearly 30 years after beginning his college studies. Hall died in his sleep in 2006 at age 88. SKU: CL01537
