The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1939-41, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: John Dungan Rigney was born in 94 in Oak Park, IL and died in 984 in Lombard, IL. He went to college at the University of St. Thomas. He played major league baseball from 937 to 947 as pitcher for the Chicago White Sox. Rigney married Dorothy Comiskey, granddaughter of Charles Comiskey, founding owner of the White Sox, and daughter of J. Louis Comiskey, another former club president. Following his playing retirement, Rigney took a position in the White Sox front office. In 956, he became the club's co-general manager along with Chuck Comiskey in replacement of Frank Lane.
