NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Lon Warneke, pictured in his Chicago Cubs uniform circa 1930-36. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1930-36, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Lonnie Warneke (The Arkansas Hummingbird) was born in 909 in Mount Ida, AR and died in 976 in Hot Springs, AR. He played major league baseball from 930 to 945 as pitcher for the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals, appeared in the 932 and 935 World Series, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. After his playing career, Warneke became an umpire in the Pacific Coast League from 946 to 948 before moving up to the National League from 949 to 955; he worked in the outfield in both the 954 World Series and the 952 All-Star Game. He was elected a judge in Garland County, Arkansas in 962, a primarily administrative position in which he occasionally mediated minor civil disputes, and served until 972 before retiring.
