NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Lou Novikoff, pictured in his Chicago Cubs uniform circa 1941. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1941, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Louis Alexander Novikoff (The Mad Russian) was born in 95 in Glendale, AZ and died in 970 in South Gate, CA. He played major league baseball from 94 to 946 as outfielder for the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies. Novikoff was a lovable eccentric and had the nickname "The Mad Russian". He supposedly once tried to steal third when the bases were loaded, saying that he had gotten a good jump on the pitcher. After a good year in 942 for the Cubs, he began to decline and returned to the minors after World War II. He roomed in the Pacific Coast League with Tony Criscola. Criscola told Dick Dobbins for his book "The Grand Minor League": "I roomed with Lou's clothing. I don't know what he did or where he went. I know he was often coming in when I was getting up."
