BIO: Marius Ugo Russo (Lefty) was born in 94 in Brooklyn, NY and died in 2005 in Fort Myers, FL. He went to college at Brooklyn College, The City University of New York, and Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. He played major league baseball from 939 to 946 as pitcher for the New York Yankees, appeared in the 94 and 943 World Series, and was selected in 94 as an All-Star. While playing for the Newark Bears of the International League in 939, pitcher Marius Russo met his future wife, Stasia, when she approached him for an autograph. He joined the New York Yankees later that year. In 94, he pitched a one-hitter and made the All-Star team. In the World Series that year, he won a duel with Freddie Fitzsimmons of the Brooklyn Dodgers, knocking the veteran out of the box with a line drive to the knee. After the 943 season, Russo spent two years in the army in World War II, entering in February 944 and being discharged in January 946. He returned to the Yankees briefly in 946.
