NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Max E West, pictured in his Boston Bees uniform circa 1938. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1938, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Max Edward West was born in 96 in Dexter, MO and died in 2003 in Sierra Madre, CA. He played major league baseball from 938 to 948 as outfielder and st baseman for the Boston Bees, Boston Braves, Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and was selected in 940 as an All-Star. Before and after his major league career, West played ten seasons for multiple teams in the Pacific Coast League, where he batted .29 with 230 home runs. In 2003 he was elected to the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame. After his playing career ended, he owned a sporting good store in Alhambra, California. West died of brain cancer at age 87 in 2003.
