NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Mickey Vernon, pictured in his Washington Senators uniform circa 1942. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1942, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: James Barton Vernon was born in Marcus Hook, PA and died in 2008 in Media, PA. He went to college at Villanova University. He played major league baseball from 939 to 960 as st baseman for the Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates, and was selected 7 times as an All-Star. In August 2008, he was named as one of the ten former players that began their careers before 943 to be considered by the Veterans Committee for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
