NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Rick Ferrell, pictured in his Boston Red Sox uniform circa 1936-37. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1936-37, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Richard Benjamin Ferrell was born in Durham, NC and died in 995 in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He went to college at Guilford College. He played major league baseball from 929 to 947 as catcher for the St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators and the St. Louis Browns, was selected 8 times as an All-Star, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 984. He retired having caught ,806 games, an American League record that stood until Carlton Fisk surpassed it in 988. After retiring, Ferrell served as a Senators coach, followed by over 30 years in the Detroit Tigers organization as a coach, scout, general manager, and, at over 80 years of age, executive consultant.
