NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Sibby Sisti, pictured in his Boston Bees uniform circa 1939. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1939, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Sebastian Daniel Sisti was born in 920 in Buffalo, NY and died in 2006 in Amherst, NY. He played major league baseball from 939 to 954 as infielder for the Boston Bees, Boston Braves and the Milwaukee Braves, and appeared in the 948 World Series. After leaving the Braves, he coached and managed in the minors for many years and was a member of the big league staff of the expansion Seattle Pilots in 969. The last page of The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book (by Brendan C. Boyd & Fred C. Harris, Little Brown & Co, 973) had a card of Sisti in his Braves uniform, catching a ball, with the authors' caption, "Goodnight, Sibby Sisti, wherever you are." Sisti answered that implied question by appearing in a small role in the 984 film The Natural, portraying the Pittsburgh manager. He was also a consultant on the film, making sure it captured the feel of 930s baseball. SKU: GB11304
