The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1932, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Thomas Noble Oliver (Rebel) was born in Montgomery, AL and died in 988 in Montgomery, AL. He played major league baseball from 930 to 933 as outfielder for the Boston Red Sox. Oliver was a slap hitter who rarely tried to drive the ball. As an outfielder, his arm and speed were already well above average, while his graceful style prompted baseball historian Fred Lieb to compare him to Joe DiMaggio and Tris Speaker. Oliver coached for the Philadelphia Athletics and Baltimore Orioles from 95-54, and later scouted for the Philadelphia Phillies. SKU: GB11298
