He played major league baseball from 1973 to 1991 as outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds and the Seattle Mariners, and was selected 3 times as an All-Star. Following his playing days, Griffey remained with the Mariners as a coach in 1993 and was a member of the coaching staff of the 1996 Colorado Rockies. He returned to the Reds as a coach from 1997 to 2001 and was joined by his son, Ken Griffey Jr. (who the Reds acquired in a trade) for his last two seasons on the team's staff. Another son, Craig Griffey, played several seasons in the minors. Jose Antonio (Abreu) Rijo was born in 1965 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He played major league baseball from 1984 to 2002 as pitcher for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds, appeared in the 1990 World Series, and was selected in 1994 as an All-Star.
